Programme of Events

Due to Council cuts, the Black Country Geological Society’s indoor meetings will no longer be held at the Abbey Room at the Dudley Archives. Our meetings will be held at The Lamp Tavern. The room is on the top floor and there is a lift.

Unless otherwise stated, the indoor and Zoom meetings will normally open at 7.30 and lectures commence at 8.00.

Those wishing to attend field or geoconservation meetings please contact our Field Secretary (email address on the Contacts page).

Any non-members wishing to attend our virtual meetings should contact our Meetings Secretary for instructions (email address on the Contacts page).

    Walk around Barrow Hill

    Walk around Barrow Hill   10.30 - 4.00

    Saturday 14 September (Field Meeting): Walk around Barrow Hill. Led by Andy Harrison. Meet at St Mark's Church, off Vicarage Lane, Brierley Hill, DY5 4JH (NGR: SO915893) for a 10.30 start. Join us for a walk around the feature known as 'The Dudley Volcano', one of the geosites within the Black Country Geopark. This will be the first in many such events to explore all 44 geosites within the Geopark and gain a good understanding of what each site has to offer. This event will be very much about member participation, so please come prepared with any stories and memories you may have of visiting this site in years gone by. Who knows what new information may be revealed. For background information have a look at the BCGS Barrow Hill leaflet here. Bring a packed lunch. We will aim to finish by 4.00.

    For International Geodiversity Day, Andy Harrison is leading a walk over the reserve, one of the Black Country Geopark geosites, to celebrate the third year of International Geodiversity Day, taking in recent works undertaken with the reserve wardens.

    Meeting at the Warden's Office Fossil View, DY1 3SS (Grid ref: SO937921) at 10.30
