Monday 18 November (Indoor Meeting): 'Heritage quarries' (title tbc). Speaker: Ian Thomas ( Chartered geologist, retired Director of the National Stone Centre). In 'Delving along the Derwent', published in September, which Ian wrote and co-ordinated with others, he advocates for heritage quarries, safeguarded for their intrinsic historical/archaeological characteristics. He also suggests that heritage quarries might continue to be worked to help maintain historic buildings.
