Wednesday 26 August (Field Meeting): 'The Louis Barrow Trail, Around Bournville and Cotteridge Park', (Erratics Project Trail 2). Led by Julie Schroder. This trip has been arranged in conjunction with Monmouth U3A geology group. Meet at 10.45 in the free car park at Cotteridge Park, Franklin Road, Birmingham, B30 2HN (Grid ref: SP 04922 80462.) NB: if the car park is full, there is plenty of free parking on the road nearby. After a brief introduction and distribution of trail leaflets we will visit The Shed nearby for refreshments/toilets. In the morning we will visit locations on the trail route in Cotteridge Park and Cadbury Park examining the glacial features of the erratics, learning about their geological journey, and their preservation in historic times thanks to the Cadburys and their chief engineer Louis Barrow. After lunch in Bournville Village we will visit the erratics at Selly Manor, learn more of the Cadbury story and finish with a close examination of the 'Bournville Boulders' close to Bournville Station.
