Welcome to the BCGS website.
The Black Country Geological Society is based in Dudley, West Midlands, England and is an Affiliated Society of the Geologists’ Association. The Society was formed in 1975 and has, since then, maintained a strong active membership. Our members come from all backgrounds and include interested amateurs, professional geologists, teachers, and students of all ages.
The Society holds regular meetings to listen to invited lecturers each month with these indoor meetings taking place during the winter on a Monday evening. We also hold monthly field meetings on Saturdays or Sundays during the summer. Geoconservation days are also arranged during the winter months, where members help to clear vegetation from overgrown local geological sites. Members receive a newsletter every 2 months with articles of geological interest and details of what’s happening around our region.
The Society welcomes guests and new members, and there is a small admittance charge of £1.00 for events, so come and try us out. It is advisable to contact us before attending in case of last minute schedule changes. For more information about joining click here.
